[. . . ] Insert the batteries size AAA/R03, AA/R06 or 9V/PP3 into the charger compartments, taking care to observe polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the charger. [. . . ] If charging 4 AA or AAA batteries at a time, place 2 batteries in the front of the charger and 2 batteries in the back of the charger. To charge AAA batteries, flip down the contact brackets before inserting the batteries. When charging 9V batteries, place the battery on the front of the charger into the plugs for 9V batteries while observing polarities. The LED indicator light marked "front" represents the charge status of the batteries placed in the front of the charger, and the LED indicator light marked "back" represents the charge status of the batteries placed in the back of the charger.
