Setting Up
Before you can use your typewriter, you must remove the packing materials from the carrier mechanism. Do not turn the unit on until you have released the carrier (10) mechanism by following the steps listed below. The numbers in diagram correspond to those in the instructions.
Lift here. . . [. . . ] To activate the keyboard and select a mode, use the instructions below. Slide the switch back to Standby ( ) when finished.
NOTE: Line Mode can be accessed from Type or Mem Mode. See "Line Mode. "
The Display
The display is active in Type, Line, and Mem Modes. The left and right margin settings are marked by " L" and " R " respectively.

Status Indicators
In all modes, you can immediately find out which features are activated at any time. Auto Return Dictionary Underscore All Paragraph Indent Punctuation Check For example, if the Spell-Right Dictionary, Auto Return, and Auto Underscore All are active, the display would look like this when the Status Indicator is used:

Activating the Status Indicator
1. Release Code to deactivate the Status Indicator.
Display Contrast
You can adjust the intensity of your display by pressing and holding Code while pressing Adj (A). The display prompts: Contrast Adjust and begins to darken until the darkest level is reached; then, it reverts to the lightest setting and starts over. Release both keys when the desired contrast level is reached.

Cursor
The cursor appears on the display in all modes. In Type Mode, it is displayed as a rectangular box ( ), and in Line and Mem Modes, as a dash ( _ ). In Type Mode, this will be on the paper, but in Line and Mem Modes, it will be on the display. For reference, the cursor's numeric position is indicated on the top right-hand corner of the display in all modes.

You can adjust the volume of the beeps heard from your unit by pressing and holding Code while pressing V. The display prompts: Volume #
(# lists a volume level from 0 through 10)
Volume has been set on medium at the factory. When you change the volume level, the new setting you select is stored unless you select 0. If the unit is turned off when the value is set at 0 , the volume level will be reset to medium when it is turned on again.
Automatic Paper Insert
NOTE: Your typewriter easily handles 12" wide paper and a 9" typing line. Copier paper, erasable bonds and very heavy textured bond papers do not print well with Correctable Film Ribbon. For these paper types, we recommend High Density Correctable Film or MultiStrike Ribbons. If typing stencils, use those specifically designed for daisywheel printers.

Insert paper securely in the slot behind the platen (9) against the paper alignment mark (8). (For 12" wide paper, center on the platen area. ) Press Code + Left Shift/Paper In. Press Shift while typing an alpha key to type upper case letters or to type the characters located on the top of certain keys, such as $, %.
Lock
Lock Caps Lock
Press Lock to continuously type in upper case characters while also typing the characters on the top row (left) of the number keys. The light goes out.
Caps Lock
Caps Lock places the keyboard in a special mode that enables you to type numbers and capital letters without accessing the Shift and Lock keys. If you press the Shift key while Caps Lock is activated, you can type lower-case characters. A beep is heard and display prompts: Caps Lock ON The symbol appears on the Status Line when you activate the Status Indicator. [. . . ]
