[. . . ] NOTE: In Mem Mode, the margins and tabs used when the text is created will be saved with the text and recalled with it, even if they have been changed. Margins In Type Mode, to signal that you are near the right margin, the typewriter will beep 5 spaces before the margin. Margins are preset depending on the pitch setting, which is the number of characters per inch. They are: 10 Pitch (Pica) Left Margin Right Margin 12 72 12 Pitch (Elite) 14 86 15 Pitch (Micro) 18 108 Move Cursor to Desired Left Margin Type New margin settings remain until changed again. You can change tab settings in Type Mode or change them for a specific document in Mem Mode when you recall that document. Changing a Regular Tab to a Special Tab 1. The tab will change to a Decimal Tab ( DT ), and the unit will beep once. Tab (O) a third time for a Flush Right Tab ( F T ). Position Print Hammer on Regular Tab Code + O SpTab (once, twice, or three times) Changing a Special Tab to a Regular Tab 1. The tab will change to a Regular Tab, and the unit will beep once. Changing All Tabs to One Special Tab 1. Press Code + Sp Tab (O) until all tabs on the typing scale change to the tab desired. Changing All Special Tabs to Regular Tabs 1. All Special Tabs are changed to Regular Tabs. Removing One Tab Setting 1. One beep is heard. Clearing All Tab Settings Press Code + Tab/ Tab C until 2 beeps are heard. The display prompts: All Tabs Clear Smith Corona Corporation Page Layout -- 2-5 Format Settings End of Page Warning, Pitch, Line Spacing, and Impression Control are all set using the display and the setting indicators printed above it. You can set formats in both Type Mode and Mem Mode using the instructions below. Setting the End of Page Warning An End of Page Setting alerts you when you are approximately one inch from the bottom of the page in Type Mode by beeping 3 times. After you hear this warning, do not attempt to add additional lines of text. In Mem Mode, the unit will halt printing at approximately one inch from the bottom of the page for you to insert a new sheet of paper. End of Page can be set for 11" or 14" paper or can be turned off. 1. Format Code + + = Press Code + Format (+/=) to activate Format. When Format is activated, the cursor is automatically below the End of Page option. End Of Page 11 14 OFF Pitch 10 12 15 Line 1 11/2 2 Impression LMH Half Space Return 2. [. . . ] NOTE: If you change line spacing in Mem Mode, the entire document prints in the new setting. Smith Corona Corporation Page Layout -- 2-7 Setting Impression Control Impression Control adjusts the force used by the print hammer to strike the typing paper. It is recommended that you select heavy impression when typing carbons or using a Script or Orator printwheel. Press Code + Format (+/=) to activate Format (if not already activated). Copier paper, erasable bonds and very heavy textured bond papers do not print well with Correctable Film Ribbon. [. . . ]
