If the recording level of the recorder is set too loud, the recorded sound may be distorted and the peak indicator will flash. Rotate the Balance control accordingly to adjust the balance of the recording to pan left or right accordingly. Then rotate the Tuning control to choose ON and press the Enter button to activate the VAR function. High is the most sensitive and can be used when there is little background noise and you would like to record people in a room, such as a meeting.
