Basic Operation Basic Shooting Advanced Shooting Playing Back Printing Online Pictures Camera Settings Thank you for purchasing an Olympus digital camera. Before you start to use your new camera, please read these instructions carefully to enjoy optimum performance and a longer service life. We recommend that you take test shots to get accustomed to your camera before taking important photographs. In the interest of continually improving products, Olympus reserves the right to update or modify information contained in this manual. How to use this manual (Basic and Advanced Manuals The instruction manual accompanying this camera is divided into two parts: the Basic Manual and the Advanced Manual (this document). Basic Manual This manual gives you easy-to-follow explanations on how to take pictures and view them so that you can get started quickly. [. . . ] Only the first frame of each movie is displayed. NORMAL FADER SLIDE ZOOM The pictures are played back one at a time. The next picture gradually enlarges from the center of the screen. Select a still picture and display the top menu. Top menu [m] g"Using the menus" (P. 16) 1 Select [BGM], and press Y. · Press Z while this screen is displayed to start the slideshow. BGM TYPE ON NORMAL 5 Playback 2 CANCEL SELECT GO OK Select [ON] or [OFF], and press Z. · When [BGM] is [ON], the sound recorded with still pictures is not played back. BGM TYPE OFF ON 3 4 SELECT GO OK Select [TYPE], and press Y. Select a transition effect for the slideshow, and press Z. BGM TYPE NORMAL FADER SLIDE ZOOM SELECT GO OK 73 Adding sound to still pictures 5 Press Z. · The slideshow starts. · The slideshow will not stop until you cancel it by pressing Z. TIPS · During index display, the slideshow is displayed in index format. Note · You are recommended to use the optional AC adapter when running a slideshow for a long period of time. The camera will enter sleep mode after about 30 minutes and stop the slideshow automatically. Adding sound to still pictures 5 Playback Sound can be added to a still picture that you have already taken. Select the still picture to which you want to add sound and display the top menu. Top menu [MODE MENU] [PLAY] [R] g"Using the menus" (P. 16) 1 Press Y to display [START]. SET MEM EDIT PLAY START 74 Adding sound to still pictures 2 Aim the camera microphone toward the sound you want to record, and press Z to start recording. · The [BUSY] bar is displayed during recording. Microphone Note · If the microphone is farther than 1 m (3. 3 ft. ) from the subject, sound may not be recorded properly. · Sound recording is not possible if there is insufficient space in the internal memory or on the card. · Once sound is added to a picture, it is not possible to erase the sound. In this case, make a re-recording with silence. 5 Playback 75 Editing still pictures (REDEYE FIX/BLACK & WHITE/SEPIA/Resizing) Editing still pictures (REDEYE FIX/ BLACK & WHITE/SEPIA/ ) This function lets you edit still pictures saved on a card and store them as new pictures. The following editing operations are possible. REDEYE FIX BLACK & WHITE SEPIA Q Corrects the red-eye phenomenon caused by the flash making the subject's eyes appear red in the picture, and saves the picture as a new file. Changes the image size to 1280 × 960, 640 × 480 or 320 × 240 and saves the picture as a new file. Select the picture that you want to edit and display the top menu. 5 Playback Top menu [MODE MENU] [EDIT] g"Using the menus" (P. 16) 1 SET CARD EDIT PLAY Select [REDEYE FIX], [BLACK & WHITE], [SEPIA], or [Q], and press Y. REDEYE FIX BLACK & WHITE SEPIA 2 (When [REDEYE FIX], [BLACK & WHITE] or [SEPIA] is selected Select [BLACK & WHITE] (or the respective function selected in the previous step), and press Z. CANCEL BLACK & WHITE BLACK & WHITE CANCEL SELECT GO OK [BLACK & WHITE] 76 Making an index picture from a movie (INDEX) (When [ Q ] is selected Select [1280 × 960], [640 × 480], or [320 × 240], and press Z. 1280×960 640×480 320×240 CANCEL CANCEL SELECT GO OK · The [BUSY] bar is displayed and after the image is saved, the camera returns to the playback mode. Note · The following cannot be edited with [REDEYE FIX], [BLACK & WHITE], [SEPIA], or [Q]: Card with insufficient space, movies, computer-edited pictures, pictures taken with another camera, or pictures in the internal memory. Making an index picture from a movie (INDEX) This function extracts 9 frames from a movie on the card and displays them on 1 screen as an index, which is stored on the card as a still picture. Select a movie that you want to edit and display the top menu. 5 Playback Top menu [MODE MENU] [EDIT] [INDEX] g"Using the menus" (P. 16) INDEX 1 Select [INDEX], and press Z. · The [BUSY] bar is displayed. The 9 frames extracted from the movie are displayed in index format, and the camera returns to playback mode. The index is stored as a new picture. SELECT INDEX CANCEL GO OK 77 Playing back pictures on a TV Note · The interval between the frames that are automatically extracted varies depending on the length of the movie. · Indexes cannot be created with [INDEX] for movies stored in the internal memory. · You cannot create an index if there is insufficient space on the card. Playing back pictures on a TV Use the provided AV cable to play back recorded images on your TV. You can play back both still pictures and movies on your TV. 5 Playback 1 Make sure that the TV and camera are turned off. Connect the multi-connector on the camera to the video input terminal on the TV using the provided AV cable. Connect to the TV's video input (yellow) and audio input (white) terminals.
