In certain areas furring or lime deposits will form on the heating element which will result in increased boiling times and can effect the kettle operation. If this deposit is not removed it can cause permanent damage to the kettle. The scale can be removed by using an appropriate descalent available from most leading supermarkets, department and hardware stores or chemists. After descaling, the kettle should be boiled with fresh water several times before use. Excessive use of descalents should be avoided as this may shorten the life of the kettle element.
