[. . . ] Increase the chart E1 the right arspeedby pressing rowkey or decrease it by pressing the leftarrow key. The percentage of chartspeedin usechanges as the arrow keys are pressed. You can seethechange -C on the screen (both on the menu and on the chart record) as you press the keys. After -C -C you've made the adjustment, press the CLEAR keytoerase ts A GRAYLINE® ON GRAYLJNP OFF different GRAYLINE level, also. The level chosenby the Ultra II at power on is usuallyadequate for mostconditions. [. . . ] Remember, you can always return to thefull screen sonarmode by pressingthe "0" key in the upper left corner. To switch back to your customized screen from the full screen sonar, simply press the WINDOWS key, then use the down arrow key to switch to the group you customized. iftheconepassesoverafish in shallow water, thesignal displayedonthe Ultra II maynotarch at all. This is due to the narrowconediameterand the resolution limitations of thedisplay. FISH ARCHES Fish arches are createdwhenthe coneof sound passesover afish. The distancetoa fish whenthe conefirst strikes it is shown as "A" on thenext page. Whenthe centerof the conestrikes thefish, the distanceis shorter as shown"B". As the coneleaves thefish, thedistanceincreasesagain as shown in "C". Mediumsized fish will showa partial arch, or a shapesimilarto an arch if they're in deep water. Large fish will arch, but turn the sensitivity up in deeperwater to see thearch. Because ofwaterconditions, such as heavysurfaceclutter, thermoclines, etc. , the sensitivity sometimes cannot be increased enough to get fish arches. NOTE: Turning the unit off erases all customized screens and user settings! RESElliNG ALL GROUPS To return all of the groups to theirfactorysettings withoutturning the unit off and on again, presstheWINDOWS key, then press the MENU key, then press the keyadjacenttothe "MAIN MENU" label. Nowpressthekey adjacentto the "RE-PROGRAM A GROUP" label. SIDE-SCANOPERATION Two differentsidescan displays are available whenthe Ultra II or Ultra II Plus is inthe Windows mode. To usethe side scanfeature, first install the ScanPactransduceron your trolling motor. The menu at the bottom of the screen Ietsyou switchbetween the "pages" ofdisplays. These are lettered "A"through "G"on the Ultra ("A" through "0" on the Ultra II Plus. ) Group "A" shows first. For example, pressing thedownarrow key onceshows the group "B" screen which is thesidescanscreen. To return to the full sonarscreen, press the key next to the "FULL CHART"labelatthetopofthe screen. The temperature of water in the lake is seldom constant from top to bottom. Layers of different temperatures form, andthejunctionofawarm and cool layerof wateris called a thermocline. The depth and thickness of the thermoclinecanvarywith theseasonor time of day. Thermoclines are important to fishermenbecause they are areas where fish are active. Manytimes baitfish will beabovethethermocline while largergame fish will suspend in or just belowit. The Ultra II can detect this invisiblelayerin the water, but the sensitivity will probablyhave to be turned up to see it. MAIN MENLJ Everyoneofthegroupscreens can be modified to some extent. Pressing the key adjacentto one of the"window menu" labelsgivesyoua menu withfunctionsthat relate onlyto thatwindow. For example, if you press the key adjacent to the window menu label on the sonar chart window, the screen will clear and you will have a new menu with selectionssuch as "ADJUST CHART SPEED" and -- Ii SPEED_ ADJUST GRAYLINE -- H 7 "ADJUST GRAYLINE". Other windowmenus letyouchange the units of measure or adjust alarms. THESE ADJUSTMENTS AFTECT ALL CHART WINDOWS AND To exitfrom a windowmenu, presstheCLEARkey.
