[. . . ] 14 READ AND SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS SAFETY FIRST Safety and the proper operation of your Casablanca fan both require a thorough knowledge of the product and proper installation; therefore, before attempting to install and operate your Casablanca fan, read this owner's manual completely and carefully. CAUTION: To avoid possible electrical shock, make certain that electricity is turned off at the circuit breaker or fuse box before attempting any installation procedure. BEFORE YOU START · All wiring must be in accordance with the National Electric Code ANSI/NFPA 70-1993 and the appropriate local electrical codes. The National Electric Code requires proper grounding as a precaution against electrical shock. · This fan is designed to be installed on an existing electrical outlet box. [. . . ] Connect in this order: · GREEN leads from mounting plate and fan to GROUND conductor of power source. · WHITE wire from fan to white NEUTRAL wire in ceiling fixture outlet box. · BLACK wire from fan to black POWER wire in ceiling fixture outlet box. Inspect each wire nut and ensure that no bare wire is visible; pull on each wire to test the connection is mechanically sound. 2 BLACK WIRES 2 WHITE WIRES 3 GREEN WIRES WIRE NUT CANOPY HATCH INSTALLATION Step 7. Tuck the wires into the canopy with the wire nuts pointed upwards, so that the WHITE and BLACK wires are on opposite sides of the canopy and all wires are clear of the canopy opening. Inspect each wire nut and ensure that no bare wire is visible; pull on each wire to test the connection is mechanically sound. TM WIRE NUT CAUTION: When handling the light kit, do not place pressure against the glass panels. Hold and manipulate light kit by its edges. INSTALL LIGHT KIT BASE Step 16. Slide the light kit base over the switch housing, assuring that no wires are pinched. Align the slots in the light kit base with the holes in the switch housing and thread the three screws removed in Step 13, but do not tighten. Align the edges of the light kit with the edges of the fan body, hold firmly, and tighten the screws securely by hand only. CAUTION: When handling the light kit, do not place pressure against the glass panels. Hold and manipulate light kit by its edges. Note: Make sure the edges of the light kit are aligned with the edges of the fan body. 9 CATHAY TM GLASS INSTALLATION HARDWARE BOTTOM GLASS FINIAL INSTALL LIGHTBULBS / ATTACH BOTTOM GLASS TO FAN Step 17. Install the two blunt-tip lightbulbs included with your Casablanca fan. Place the bottom glass over the base of the light kit so the groove of the bottom glass fits snugly. Insert the finial into the hole of the bottom glass and screw it in until resistance is felt. Do not overtighten the finial, as this can damage the bottom glass. CAUTION: When handling the light kit, do not place pressure against the glass panels. Hold and manipulate light kit by its edges. CAUTION: Use only two (2) 60 Watt blunt-tip bulbs maximum.
