Detailed instructions for use are in the User's Guide.

[. . . ] Ventoux Road Pedals Thank you for purchasing the Nashbar Ventoux road pedal. This pedal design works with all cycling shoes having a 3-hole drilling pattern on the sole. [. . . ] Entering (see figure E): Position the tip of the cleat under the lip at the toe of the pedal. Exiting (see figure F): Twisting your heel laterally outward will release you from the system. CLEATS These pedals include a red cleat with 6° of rotation. This cleat allows rotational freedom while optimizing the transmission of effort into forward motion. Foot freedom is characterized by a 3° progressive elasticity on both sides of the central fixed point. E CLEAT MOUNTING Push the rectangular black rubber traction piece into the recessed opening as shown in figure B. Orient the traction piece so that the taller end is positioned at the rear of the cleat. Rear B ADJUSTMENT OF THE RELEASE TENSION The release tension of the Nashbar Ventoux Road Pedal is adjustable and is initially set at the lightest release setting. If the tension adjustment is too light, allowing the cleat to release from the pedal too easily, turn the tension adjustment screw clockwise to increase the tension. If the tension adjustment is too strong, preventing the cleat from releasing easily enough, turn the tension adjustment screw counter-clockwise to decrease the tension. F Lightly grease the screws and insert them through the rectangular washers. Place the textured surface of the plastic cleat against the sole of the shoe. v WARNING Front Minimum binding tension settings are recommended for novice riders and for riders in situations requiring frequent cleat release, such as on difficult terrain or in heavy traffic. We recommend that you use the pedal at the lightest (factory preset) tension until you are comfortable with the entry and exit motion. Then, and only if necessary, increase the tension gradually. Decrease release tension Increase release tension IMPORTANT: Do not over-tighten the tension adjustG ment screw. This will cause damage to the pedal, and when release tension is adjusted too high, it can make it difficult for you to disengage from the pedal. MAINTENANCE These pedals are designed for low maintenance and long life. Aside from the recommendation to keep pedals and soles clean, no further maintenance is required. Use only petroleum-based lubricants on the pedal bearing surfaces when cleaning or overhauling. [. . . ] Cleats that are badly worn may impair release from the pedals and should be replaced. · Be sure to read and understand the instructions above before using these pedals.
