[. . . ] The EZ Flash 2 utility is built-in the BIOS chip so it is accessible by pressing <Alt> + <F2> during the Power-On Self Tests (POST). Visit the ASUS website (www. asus. com) to download the latest BIOS file for the motherboard. Save the BIOS file to a floppy disk or a USB flash disk, then restart the system. You can launch the EZ Flash 2 by two methods. (1) Insert the floppy disk / USB flash disk that contains the BIOS file to the floppy disk drive or the USB port. Press <Alt> + <F2> during POST to display the following. Go to the Tools menu to select EZ Flash 2 and press <Enter> to enable it. You can switch between drives by pressing <Tab> before the correct file is found. When the correct BIOS file is found, EZ Flash 2 performs the BIOS update process and automatically reboots the system when done. · · This function can support devices such as USB flash disk, or floppy disk with FAT 32/16 format and single partition only. DO NOT shut down or reset the system while updating the BIOS to prevent system boot failure! ASUS P5N-D 4-5 4. 1. 4 Updating the BIOS The Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) can be updated using the AwardBIOS Flash Utility. Visit the ASUS website (www. asus. com) and download the latest BIOS file for the motherboard. Save the BIOS file to a bootable floppy disk. Write the BIOS filename on a piece of paper. 4. Copy the AwardBIOS Flash Utility (awdflash. exe) from the Software folder of the support CD to the floppy disk, CD ROM or a USB flash disk with the latest BIOS file. Boot the system in DOS mode using the bootable floppy disk, CD ROM or a USB flash disk you created earlier. Under the DOS mode, use <X:> (X stands for the name of the disk assignment) to switch to the folder of floppy disk, CD ROM or USB flash disk you saved the BIOS fileand AwardBIOS Flash Utility. At the prompt, type Message: awdflash then press <Enter>. The Award BIOS Flash Utility screen appears. Please input File Name! 4-6 Chapter 4: BIOS setup 6. The utility verifies the BIOS file in the floppy disk, CD ROM or a USB flash disk and starts flashing the BIOS file. Press <N> when the utility prompts you to save the current BIOS file. Do not turn off or reset the system during the flashing process! 9. The utility displays a Flashing Complete message indicating that you have successfully flashed the BIOS file.
